Hancock Park is a residential subdivision in the central region of Los Angeles. It is located in the eastern portion of the area that was originally Rancho La Brea, a 4,439-acre Mexican land grant in present day Los Angeles County. The land was purchased by Major Henry Hancock in 1863 and developed by his son, G. Allan Hancock, in the 1920s with family profits from drilling oil in Rancho La Brea.

The subdivision is built around the grounds of a private golf club. Palatial two-story single-family homes were designed for influential Los Angeles society members by preeminent architects of the area in Spanish Colonial Revival, English Revival, Tudor Revival, Monterey Revival, Mediterranean Revival, and American Colonial Revival styles.

G. Allan Hancock insisted that the residences be set back 50 feet from the street. Most Hancock Park homes include side driveways, typically leading through a porte cochere (covered entrance) to a garage in the rear. Hancock Park residents of the past have included Mae West, Nat King Cole, Howard Hughes, architect William Pereira, and Arthur Letts, Jr., the Broadway Department Store magnate. Today, Hancock Park is a historic and affluent Los Angeles neighborhood.
